Book Buddies Program at Dike-Newell

Last year Dike Newell School’s Whole School Activities Committee jump-started a new reading program called “Book Buddies.” Every classroom in the school is paired with another classroom of a different grade level, and the students meet once a month to read stories to each other.

“Book Buddies was developed to promote reading and to build school community,” said First Grade Teacher Kelli O’Brien. “It focuses on bringing students together across grade levels.”

O’Brien is a member of the school’s PBIS committee, which took over responsibility of Book Buddies this year. Her students have been reading their favorite stories with Kindergarteners.

“Book Buddies has been a successful program and we hope to continue using it to promote positivity throughout our school,” she said.
