Dr. Seuss Stories

In celebration of the upcoming birthday of beloved author Dr. Seuss, Dike Newell students have been reading biographies, as well as some of his wonderful stories. Born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield Massachusetts, Theodor Geisel loved to draw from an early age - he even was known to doodle on his school books as well as his bedroom walls!  His father worked a second job at a local zoo and his mother read to him every night, and this really influenced his love of animals, quirky drawings and love of literature. He chose Dr. Seuss as his pen name because Seuss was his mother’s maiden name and his own middle name, and his mother had hoped he would go to college to become a doctor.
