Books Off the Bus!

Dike Newell students have been greatly enjoying brand new books!  Thanks to the generosity of Books on the Bus, along with help from Portland Ovations, each student at Dike Newell received a new book during their library class. Remote learners were also given books. Pre-K students received Guess How Much I Love You, written by Sam McBratney, illustrated by Anita Jeram. Kindergarten and first grade students were given Rainbow Fish Discovers the Deep Sea, written and illustrated by Marcus Pfister. Second grade students

were the happy recipients of Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House: Stage Fright on a Summer Night. Books on the Bus also provided over 300 gently used books for students to pick from during their library special and to be sent home to remote learners.

Launched on March 2, 2018, to coincide with Read Across America Day, the Books on the Bus program is a community collaboration inspired by similar programs in Topsham, Maine and Brussels, Wisconsin. Their mission is to provide kids with convenient access to books while also helping to improve bus behavior.
